System Requirements
Remote End
At the remote end, you need a shell account on a Unix based system. The
SLiRP software runs on the remote system. Because you need to compile
SLiRP yourself, the remote system must have the normal development tools
installed (cc/gcc, make, etc).
Local End
On your own home system, you must have the necessary TCP/IP networking
software installed. Linux comes with SLIP/PPP built-in. The same goes for
OS/2 Warp. On Windows 3.x, you need to acquire software like Trumpet
Winsock, Internet in a Box, etc.
If you haven't figured out how to use the networking software on your
home system, now is a fine time to start ;-)
And between the two ends...
You need a clean 8-bit link that uses hardware flow control. If you don't
know what this means and don't know how to check if you already have one
with your current setup, try this: Download a 100 K binary file
(eg., a ZIP archive), and repeat the same for upload. Use whatever
tools/means you know to determine that the files have been transfered
intact. If you've had no problems, chances are your current setup already
meets this requirement.
