If you're looking for a free software that can turn your normal Unix shell account into a SLIP/PPP account, try SLiRP. Even though you only get a pseudo-SLIP/PPP connection, SLiRP allows you to redirect ports on the server end so that your PC can even accept remote connections from the internet!
