Bone and ligament allograft transplantation is well established in USA, Canada, and parts of Europe. In the last decade, tissue banks have been springing up in several countries in the Asia Pacific Region. IAEA has played the role of a catalyst in bringing about this significant development.

The biggest achievement of RCA Project RAS 7/008 : Radiation Sterilisation of Tissue Grafts is the development of a Regional Training Centre in Singapore in November 1997 for training of tissue bank operators in East Asia and the Pacific Region ie. 13 RCA Member States including Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. NUH Tissue Bank launched a distance learning Diploma Course -NUS Diploma in Tissue Banking.
