Advanced Topics / Specifications

The official HTML Specification - HTML Level 1, HTML Level 2, HTML Level 3 DTD, HTML +: These are the official HTML specifications. Also includes information on on-going development.
IETF HyperText Markup Language (HTML) Working Group: Information about the evolving HTML standards and related developments.
HTTP Specifications: This is the official HTTP 1.0 specification used to carry hypertext documents between WWW client and the HTTP server.
Common Gateway Interface: The Common Gateway Interface (or CGI) is a standard for external gateway programs to interface with information servers such as HTTP servers.

WWW Server Software

CERN httpd: CERN httpd is a public domain full-featured HTTP server. Also acts as a proxy server and can cache documents.
NCSA httpd: Public domain full-featured HTTP server.
Netsite Communications Server: A commercially supported HTTP server from Mosaic Communications. Also available is the Netsite Commerce Server which includes data encryption and server authentication.
