After more than ten years of lying dormant, the East Asian and Pacific Regional Committee (EAPRC) of the Bernoulli Society finally came to life. At the 51st ISI Session held in August 1997 in Istanbul, the Working Committee for the revival of the EAPRC put together the following new EAPRC:

The East Asian and Pacific Regional Committee (EAPRC) will organize international meetings on probability and statistics and from time to time sponsor or support other meetings in the East Asia-Pacific Region. It shall comprise the committee chair, the past committee chair, and eight to ten ordinary members selected to ensure broad geographical representation. The term of office of an ordinary member shall be four years, with approximately one-half elected every two years. NO ORDINARY MEMBER SHALL SERVE MORE THAN TWO CONSECUTIVE TERMS. The term of office of the chair shall be two years. The chair is eligible for re-election and shall serve no more than two consecutive terms. The term of office of the past committee chair shall be two years.

Registration fee

The registration fee is US$ 100 with 20% reduction for Bernoulli Society members. For accompanying persons: US$ 50. The registration fee will cover:

Currency and Payment

Vietnamese currency is Vietnam Dong (VND). Most major world currencies are exchangeable in Vietnam, but US $ is frequently used. The rates of exchange is approximately US$ 1.00 = VND 13,880 as of February 1999.

Registration fee should be paid in cash (in US$) at the Reception desk upon participants’ arrival. For other expenses as accommodation, shopping, etc.. Traveler's checks and major cards such as VISA, MASTER CARD, AMERICAN EXPRESS are accepted.

Arrival at the airport

Transport for participants from Noi Bai International Airport (40 km north of Hanoi) to the hotel will be arranged by the organizing committee. Participants should confirm the date and flight number of their arrival to the organizing committee if they want to be picked up at the airport. Otherwise, they can take public transportation, the taxi fare is around US$ 0.3 per kilometer.

Conference Tours

Ha Long Bay - June 12-13, 1999

Ha Long Bay - The Descending Dragon Bay - located in Tonkin Gulf, 175 km North-East of Hanoi. Ha Long bay covers an area of 1500 km2. The Bay is famous for its 3000 rocky, colorful islets. In 1994, UNESCO recognized Ha Long Bay as a World-Heritage site. The package price for a tour of 2 days and 1 night at Ha Long Bay is about US$ 50 per person.

Day1: Leave Hanoi at 7.00 a.m., arrive in Ha Long City at about 12.00 p.m. Check into hotel and have lunch for about 1 hour in the restaurant. Afternoon: Visit fish market, Linh Tien Pagoda and Bai Tho Mountain in Hong Gai. Dinner at the restaurant of hotel.

Day 2: Get up at 6.30 a.m., have breakfast in the hotel and take boat visiting Ha Long Bay for about 6 à 7 hours. Lunch will be served on the boat. Afternoon: Coming back to be in Hanoi at 6 p.m.
