For each ASEAN country, the historical events that have shaped its press
system, the legal and philosophical tenets of the system, the role and
responsibility of the press, media regulations and restrictions, and the
distinctiveness of the press systems as compared to other systems, are
examined.
In this book, leading scholars, media practitioners and politicians
reflect on the role of the press in the society and government media
relations, and explore the distinctive features of the ASEAN press in an
attempt at generating a comprehensive doctrine for the press systems of
the region.
